Conventions from the Eyes of a First Timer-Part 2

The people you meet at the conventions will amaze you. I talked to countless people that week. Agents, editors, authors, fans, and on and on. They were all fascinating. Sometimes I would befriend a person who would turn out to be an agent for a huge literary agency. Or I would be talking to someone for hours who would turn out to be Editor and Chief of a successful short fiction magazine. Or your roommate for the week could end up being a fantastic fantasy author that you are so lucky to have met and palled around with for a week.

Of course, I’m talking about my roommate, Jamie Lackey. Yeah, that novel cover above? That’s hers. The first thing I did when I got home was buy her book. She was my big sister in Kansas City, putting up with all my newbie questions, showing me around the exclusive SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America) suite, and generally, making me feel just a little more at home with this alien experience. Thanks, Jamie! ❤

Naturally, when I got home, I was dying to see if her novel was as awesome as it sounded. It came in yesterday.

I’m…already done.

Everyone, get ready for a beautiful ride that will make you smile, laugh, and cry in equal measure. Her characters have to make some very real choices and none of them are perfect, but you have to love them. Plus, the novel features a very drunk dragon.

It’s a fast read and so refreshing. Click the link above to check it out! Tell me what you think in the comments on this post.
